January Holidays & Observances
There are a bunch of intriguing holidays and observances during the month of January. But probably the most important are:
1 January – New Years’ Day
New Year’s day is the first day of the year, the start of a new calendar. This is a day when celebrations, parties, and gatherings take place across the world. It is a time to celebrate the arrival of a new year and the arrival of a fresh start.
People get together on 31 December and stay up until midnight to watch the new year come in. At midnight, people often kiss and hug each other and say “Happy New Year”.
Some people believe that whatever you do on New Year’s day will determine how the rest of your year will go. It is a celebration of fresh beginnings and a fresh slate.
20 January – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
We observe Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday on the third Monday of January each year. It honors the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., an American civil rights leader, and was first observed in 1986. It’s a federal holiday in the USA.
King was an influential leader in the non-violent civil rights movement, and his messages are as powerful and relevant today as they were during his lifetime.

History of January
How January got its name. Why is it called January?
January is the first month of the year and has been named so since ancient times. We believed the name January comes from the name of the Roman God Janus. Janus was the god of beginnings and endings, transitions, doors, gates, and passages. He is often represented as having two faces, one looking to the past and the other to the future.
The New Year would start in January, and the Romans would celebrate it in honor of the god Janus. It marked the beginning of the Gregorian calendar and replaced the previous 10-month Julian calendar.
As time progressed, the Gregorian calendar and January’s name were also adapted by other countries.
How many days are in January?
There are 31 days in the month of January.

Zodiac Signs of January and a little about their personality traits
January Calendar Zodiac Signs: Capricorn (22 December – 21 January)
Capricorns are people who are ambitious and hardworking. They like to take control of a situation and strive to be in charge. Capricorns are also determined and driven people, always looking for new challenges and opportunities to climb the ladder at work. They are the type who would never be satisfied with where they’re at and always want to move forward and improve their situation.
Capricorns are also very realistic people who always look at the down-to-Earth side of things. They are not dreamers who are always thinking about what could be. They are people who simply like to take things as they come and make the most of the situation they’re in as it is.
January Calendar Zodiac Signs: Aquarius (22 January – 21 February)
Aquarians are eccentric and creative people. They don’t like following the crowd or fitting into the usual 9-5 life. They are thinkers and dreamers who are always looking toward the future and figuring out what they want to do with their lives. The Aquarians are the type who would rather sit at home with a cup of tea while they ponder over an idea they have in their head than go out and party and have fun like others their age.
They are also very independent people. Aquarians don’t like to be tied down in their relationships and are usually quite reluctant to settle down with someone and start a family right away. They would rather start a family once they are sure about what they want to do with their lives.

Supplies to Print Your Free January Calendar Printables
There are a few supplies that you’ll want to prepare in advance when printing your calendar templates. These are some of my favorite printing and planning supplies:
Printers
Paper
Pens
Frixion erasable pens are amazing! They come in black, blue, and a mix of bright colors, and they aren’t like the erasable pens I grew up with that made a mess of paper and didn’t really erase. They erase easily, look great, and are my most favorite pens to plan with because I can color-code events, and I can easily erase them when things change.
If you want a pen that doesn’t erase, the BIC Gel-Ocity pens are my favorite. They write so smoothly and area. pleasure to use. According to my Amazon history, I’ve purchased the 12 pack linked below 14 times so my love for them is pretty serious!
Highlighters
These Frixion Highlighters are just as great as the pens! They erase beautifully, don’t damage paper, and make my color-coding dreams come true!
If you like a more subtle highlighter, these Mildliner Highlighters are gorgeous. I like to use these when I want a softer look, and I’m certain I won’t need to change or erase anything. They also have ink on both ends so you can easily make different sized lines.
Post-it Notes
I love post-it notes. They’re great for reminders, organizing ideas, quick decluttering labels, and even bookmarks! I like to use post-its in various colors, sizes, and sometimes different shapes too. The heart notes are a great way to leave little love notes for your partner or kiddo. These are my favorites:
